the cheapest thing you could do is buy (or ask someone to make it for you) a crossover cable and connect both computers directly to each other. make sure that it is a "crossover" cable and not a (typical) "straight-through" cable.

A two-computer network, sometimes called a peer-to-peer network, can be created using a crossover Ethernet cable. Like any other network, each computer needs to be assigned a unique IP address. In this network configuration, a default gateway is not used and can be unspecified.

After connecting both computers to each end of the crossover cable, you must configure the network connections (on each computer) to see each other. Example settings:

TCP/IP (ipv4) settings for Computer 1

IP Address:192.168.0.1

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: (leave this blank)

TCP/IP (ipv4) settings for Computer 2

IP Address:192.168.0.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: (leave this blank)

Once you have set this up, you should be able to transfer files between the computers...if you need more details, let me know.
