Can computers trigger epilepsy?

I was sent an email containing a flashing red and yellow picture that said ''I hope you have a seizure'' which made me wonder if computers could trigger epilepsy.

For a normal person, no you will be fine.

Epilepsy is a disorder, you can't trigger it. You can however trigger a seizure. If you have epilepsy or are prone to seizures - then yes a computer screen even without your flashing email can cause a seizure. You don't notice it but your whole screen flashes very very fast... that can cause a seizure if you are epileptic. So can video games, strobe lights, and some flourescent lighting. It isn't a flashing image that causes it, it is the whole screen flashing rapidly that causes it.

If you aren't prone to seizures or have a disorder you will be just fine viewing those kinds of things.

Hope this helps!

They can trigger seizures, not necesarilly epilepsy. It depends on what part of the brain seizures trigger from in an individual with seizures. I am a teacher and have known students that cannot be anywhere in view of a monitor because they can trigger seizures
Depends what you mean ''trigger''. If a person has epilepsy then the flickering of the lights from the computer or fluorescent lights could trigger a seizure.
Yes it can. Some video games have caused seizures. Buyer beware. Intentionally sending such material might be considered a criminal act. It might be considered a type of virus which is illegal. It's also cruel.
I.... ah ah ah ah... DON'T... ah ah ah ah... THINK.... ah ah ah ah... SO.

Whew! Okay, I'm through it now.
tech. they could. Just like strobe lights can.
yes they can...so can flickering lights...sometimes epileptics can have seizures from flashing or flickering lights...
it wasn,t very nice of the person to do that to you

yes it can cause seizures if you are prone to them
