i have an old ancient sony desktop, with windows 95. it can turn on and power but when i boot it up it is just this black screen with codes,in white letters. i tried clicking with the mouse, and pressing buttons with the keyboard, switching my current keyboard and mouse to this computer but it still does'nt work. i don't have any money to call a guy to fix it. but i want to use it because i want to be good with computers and IT.

win 95/98 usually if tehy have boot problems they go into a command prompt boot
Do you have a Windows 95 or Windows 98 disk? If not, then borrow or download a pirate copy (beware of trojan viruses though) - I know it's not what you are supposed to do but since the laptop certainly has a licensed copy registered to it I don't think it would do Microsoft any harm.
Reset the BIOS and set the boot order to CD first (which key to press to get into BIOS depends on the make of laptop) then install Windows 95 or Windows 98. Hopefully you won't need to format the drive.
The next thing is to obtain the drivers: Search the manufacturer's archive of drivers, they may be difficult to find but they are probably there. Copy the drivers to a disk (floppy or CD) so that you can put them on your laptop after the Operating System has been installed.
