Did computers exist in 1974?

I'm not talking about laptops and PCs of course, but were there computers like for example, weather and communications use back then?

They've existed since the early 1940's where there was a world market for 5 computers according to IBM. They were absolutely massive (would have occupied a huge room) and were extremely expensive. They couldn't do very little either, except basic calculations and encrypt and decode data.

They weren't portable; they would take up whole room that had to be air conditioned to keep the room cooler. They produced heat like you know what?
They have existed well before the widespread use of electricity. Computers can be made to work through mechanical means and do not even need to be electronic.

Early ones used cogs and levers to make decisions, if you think about a cam lobe can be the equivalent of the one and a flat spot a zero.

Early electric computers used vacuum tubes and later magnetic bubble memory.

What caused them to take off in the 80's was the mass production of smaller and smaller integrated circuits. One chip could hold millions of transistors each one equivalent of an individual tube or switch.
